ABOUT
Andrea Gutierrez is a Colombian-American composer and flutist from Fairfield, California. As a composer, she particularly enjoys writing pieces using visual artworks or literature as inspiration to create a “sonic world” in which the listener can immerse themselves in. She particularly loves writing electroacoustic/electronic works and has been commissioned to write pieces for several student films, video games, recitals, and festivals! As a performer, she frequently collaborates with various chamber groups and large ensembles in the Bay Area and was an Emerging Artist Fellow for Chamber Music Silicon Valley’s 2022-2024 season. Additionally, Andrea thoroughly enjoys teaching and inspiring younger musicians to explore their creativity in piano/theory, flute, and composition.
Recently, Andrea has performed as a soloist and premiered a new work and in the 2024 Silicon Valley Music Festival, orchestrated several short works for Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies, performed as a soloist for the San Francisco Youth Chorus and in Silicon Valley Music Festival in 2023, has traveled to Mexico as an assistant flute/woodwind instructor for Opera de Tijuana’s music camp, and was a finalist for the GLFCAM Bahlest Eeble Readings Program!
Andrea received her A.A. in Performance from Napa Valley College, studying under flutist Jennifer Hunt and received her B.M. in Composition at San Jose State University where she has studied with composers Dr. Christopher Luna-Mega and Dr. Brian Ciach, as well as studied flute with Dr. Ray Furuta and Catherine Payne.
